Thieves and pickpockets operate in busy areas, so if you are out walking in the hustle and bustle of the city, make sure that your phone is out of sight. And when you are talking on your mobile, look out for anyone acting suspiciously around you in case they try to make a grab for it. Trains stations, bus stops and bus stations are often frequented by thieves, especially at night. Try not to use your phone when you are in these areas in the evening and if you need to use your mobile phone, do so in area that is well-lit . In the event of your mobile phone being stolen, it helps to have the IMEI number, make and model number of your handset to make it easier to trace. Take a note of these details and keep them somewhere safe away from your phone. Activating security tools on your mobile phone can help to prevent any unauthorised people from being able to use your handset. Have a look at the instruction book for your mobile phone to see a list of all the security features it comes equipped with. Registering your mobile phone with the National Mobile Property Register and your mobile service provider will make it easier for the police to trace you should your phone be recovered, so you should give them a call and let them know your details. Making your mobile provider and the police aware as fast as possible in the event of your phone being stolen is essential as your mobile provider can block your SIM card and handset so that it cannot be used by anyone. The sooner this is done the better as you could still be charged for calls made from the phone after it has been stolen from you. You should never leave your phone in an unattended car. If you have to, you should lock it securely away in the boot or glove compartment, and turn it off so that it cannot ring and attract the attention of thieves. |
