Based in Taiwan, HTC have been responsible for bringing us some of the most innovative smartphones in recent years. This year sees them launch their newest model the HTC Desire, which uses the updated Android 2.1 user interface.

The handset is fairly slim, with a depth of just 11.9mm, with a large 3.7 inch OLED touch screen. The exterior is very smooth, which makes it comfortable to hold for long periods, and the sound quality for both music and voice calls is excellent.

The HTC Desire uses the Android 2.1 user interface as its base, but has improved this further with the new HTC-designed Sense interface. Sleeker in design and more intuitive than the basic Android interface, Sense also allows touchscreen scrolling for easier manoeuvring.

The main selling point of the phone is that is uses a powerful 1 GigaHertz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which can really help you to get the most out of Android apps, as well as making the interface slicker and more responsive.

If you are looking for a state of the art camera phone then there are definitely more impressive cameras on the market. But the 5 mega pixel camera and single LED flash that come with the HTC Desire are more than capable of capturing good quality snaps and video footage.

The HTC Desire does not have a standard keypad, instead it uses a virtual keypad via its large touch screen display. Emailing and text messaging is easy as the touch keypad is highly responsive, and with social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter built in, you can keep in touch with your friends wherever you go.

One of the highlights of the phone is its large touchscreen display. With a screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, images are sharp and bright. The oversized screen means that the HTC Desire is a great choice for those who regularly use their phones for watching movies and video clips, and for gaming too.

Thanks to the intuitive media player app that comes with the Sense user interface, the 32 gigabyte micro SD storage capacity, and the built in 3.5mm headphone jack, the Desire is great for listening to music on, and could quite easily serve as a replacement for a standalone personal stereo or MP3 player.
