Melbourne's rent amounts vary quiet a bit depending on the area and facilities and services that are part of the deal, but the average is between $150 and $180 per week with occasional lows of $90 or less and highs of $200 plus per week. The coastal or seafront areas tend to be very expensive and feature more short term lease rentals to cater for the tourist trade.

On the other end of the scale suburbs such as Albert Park, South Yarra, Surrey Hills, Toorak and Glen Iris will have your wallet squealing in terror and burrowing deep into your pocket. The seafront areas also tend to focus more on the tourist trade and usually feature a predominance of short term lease options.

There are many online resources and local business listings that have extensive, current databases of shared rental options so finding a suitable solution should be easy.
