Literally translated to mean 'wind water', feng shui is an age-old practise and it is system used to create harmony from aesthetics. You can pronounce the words 'feng shui' in a few different fashions with those who practise it calling it anything from 'fung-shoo-ee' to 'fung shway'.

Are you struggling with a high-stress work environment where you wish you could have a time out to breathe? Then you might wish to think about introducing feng shui and generating a new atmosphere of calm in your office!

Naysayers can have their reservations about feng shui but this is often due to a lack of understanding or they fear they will need to subscribe fully to its philosophy. But actually anyone can begin to implement feng shui into their lives and it really is simple to implement in stages to create a beautiful space that becomes a pleasure to spend time in. You have nothing to lose by creating a quiet new space which will have a range of fantastic benefits for your company.

Creating auspicious spaces is the founding tenet of the feng shui practise and it is based upon the bearings taken from a number of sources such as the stars, bodies of water and the compass. Qi or Chi is an important part of the process of feng shui - it is a moveable life force that surrounds us and is a similar construction to the concept of yin and yang. While the main aim of yin and yang is to achieve balance the purpose of feng shui is to channel the power of Qi around us.

One way you can try feng shui in your office is to sit in your chair in an entirely different way -be sure to have a solid wall behind you rather than an open window which can lose Qi. Create a special area called the 'wealth area' for equipment that you may use, such as phones, faxes and computers, and ensure that your desks and chairs are in a certain position so that you channel Qi throughout your offices and maximise its potential.

Water and plants are crucial ingredients to feng shui in your office and you shouldn't have any cactuses in your office as their 'shar chi' creates negative energy in your workspace. The placement of doors is very important in your office as having two doors can channel Qi both in and out. Buy a fountain for an excellent source of energy this will activate the Qi in your office and create medical benefits.
