Painting a room forms the basis for any makeover, and you can even make a party of it with family and friends. 2. Adding Light Something basic but very much needed; light can say a lot about a room. Natural light is the best light in a room so you need to ask yourself, "How much and what kind of natural light gets in your room?". Window treatments can be the deciding factor on the amount of natural light that comes into your room. If the room is dark you can be creative and decorate using the right curtains and material. When you need more light added to a room or a part of a room that is dark then you want to paint the walls a light shade. Install a floor lamp or table lamp that can use the new energy efficient bulbs that can imitate natural light. If your room has no windows or very small windows you will be able to add soft textures to increase the warm and cozy feel to the room. 3. The Use of Pillows Pillows can provide an instant change in any room. You can change the color of the pillows and it will look like you have redecorated completely. You can buy pillows or make them yourself. If you want to make them you will need to visit an arts and crafts store. The easiest pillow to create is the envelope style. This is done by taking your material and wrapping it around your pillow to create an envelope look and then tie it off with a ribbon or button. Be creative. 4. Area rugs. Area rugs are so versatile when you want to update the look of your room. You can use area rugs to define a particular area in the room, bring in a new color or cover up a worn place in the carpet already down. If you purchase a well-made area rug that is older then the most recently made you will find that their design is unique and you may want to place them on the wall for decor. 5. Use your Imagination When it comes to creating a new look for your home no one does it like you. That's right, your imagination can help you create a look that is beautiful and well within the budget. First you need to visualize the look, plan the design, accessorize, and you are done.
